ORGANIZATIONS and WEB RESOURCES:
  • The Africa Fund: Dedicated to the advancement of human rights, democracy and development in the region, this site includes news updates and full-text versions of recent Africa Fund publications.

  • African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights: The text of the African Charter with commentary, plus general background on human rights and international law in Africa, provided by the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies at the University of Malta.

  • African Earth Science Societies, Associations & NGOs: Providing an online resource guide to organizations that are actively participating in and contributing to current environmental policies

  • African Gender Institute: Maintained by the University of Cape Town; check out �Current Events� for speeches and panel discussions on gender issues as well as �Gender Links� for other sites dedicated to African gender equity.

  • Africa Legal Aid: Provides news about human rights developments in the region, access to AFLA�s quarterly and annual reports, and links to other legal instruments pertaining to human rights.

  • Africa Online: This website provides an online resource guide to daily information on the social, economic and political events within African countries.

  • Africa Policy Information Center: Includes country-specific topics under the �Africa on the Internet� link, information on general social and economic issues, and a search engine.

  • Africa Reparations Movement: ARM is dedicated to the attainment of reparations for the legacy slavery and colonization in the region. (not currently being maintained)

  • African Union: Official site of the AU. Click on 'AU News' and then on 'Office of the Secretary General' to get to their Communications and Publications section for AU documents. Note that the website of the organization's predecessor, the OAU, is no longer active.

  • Afronet Online: Reports from the Inter-African Network for Human Rights and Development. (not recently updated)

  • Derechos: Human Rights in Subsaharan Africa: Resource guide with links to regional human rights organizations, reports, and articles as well as country-specific information.

  • Human Rights Watch-Africa: Contains up-to-date news releases on human rights violations throughout the region and access to their World Reports.

  • Inter-Church Coalition on Africa (ICCAF): Use the �Countries� link for in-depth material on human rights issues in Kenya, Sudan, Nigeria, Congo-Kinshasa, and Angola.

  • NewAfrica.Com: Includes news, maps and the text of many African constitutions.

  • The University of Minnesota's African Human Rights Resource Center: Extensive list of African human rights links and general human rights resources.

  • The United Nations Office of the Special Advisor on Africa: The OSAA promotes peace and development in Africa by facilitating intergovernmental deliberations and assisting the Secretary-General on United Nations work in Africa.

  • United States Agency for International Development: Contains country-specific information and links to African resources.
